Ruma Guha Thakurta was born on 3 November 1934. She was a singer and actress from West Bengal. She took training under likes of Abdul Rehman Khan, Lakshmi Shankar. She began her acting career with Jwar Bhata(1944) by Amiya Chakravarty. At the age of ten, she went on to star in movie like Mashaal(1950), Afsar (1950,) Ganga (1959), Joradighir Chowdhury Paribar (1966), Antony Firingee (1967), Arogya Niketan(1969), Dadar Kirti (1980), 36 Chowringhee Lane(1981), Asha O Bhalobasha(1988), The Namesake( 2006). As a playback singer, she sang in Lukochuri, Baghini, Bakso Badal, Mera Dharam Meri Maa, Amrita Kumbher Sandhane, etc.
